you have to use the cigarette lighter. Just run the wire down and tuck it up under the side of the center console and unplug it everytime you turn the ign. off as its Hot at all times and could potentially drain your battery if left on. Oversight by mazda, they should have put another one in front by the usb inputs
Unplugging every time would be a PIA and really limit the use of the center console for storage as the jack is near bottom and i'm positive I would forget to do it now and again only to find my battery stone dead. But thanks for your input.

I've kept my radar detector plugged into the center console to charge it and also into the outlet in the rear. I've never had a problem with the battery dying.

You dont have to unplug the end thats in the center console. unplug it from the end attached to the device your using and leave the wires in the center console undisturbed. you will have no power draw this way.

And also your battery dieing if you do forget is highly unlikely. Most accessories power themselves off and even if they dont it would take a long time to weaken your batt to the point of car not starting.

Go to Ebay or a auto parts store and get a inline cigarette lighter jack and a plug in piggy back fuse holder. Connect the positive wire from your in line jack to the pigtail of the piggy back fuse holder. Remove the cover from the fuse panel down by the drivers left foot. Using a meter or a test light find a fuse that is hot only with the ignition on. remove that fuse and put it in the other slot on the piggy back fuse holder.

Look around in there and you will see a 10 mm nut on a threaded stud with a bunch of ground wires going to it. Loosen the nut, add your negative wire to the bunch and tighten the nut. Now you can run a wire from the lower right corner of the windshield down the edge of the door opening and tuck it into the seal from there go along the carpet under the dash near the door and into your new jack.

Default 2016.5 Aux Jack location

I know I'm late to this party, but on the 2016.5 CX-5, there are 2 Aux jacks. One is next to the doubl USB's under the dash, and the other is in the compartment in between the 2 front seats.

Any thoughts on where to find one of those?

Um, no. That's not a power outlet. Audio input ONLY.

Note: I own a 2016.0 CX-5 and there is no power outlet next to the double usb ports....check it out. There is a non switched power outlet in the compartment between the seats....very inconvenient!

NO! The aux jack is an audio input jack to feed music sources (MP3 players, etc) into your stereo amp. It is NOT a 12V power outlet.
