Little update to close this one out. I replaced the HPFP last night and aside from the space being very tight, it went alright. I did reuse the fuel pipe so we’ll see if that comes back to bite me. One thing I ran into was I had no way to torque the fuel pipe nut back down. Unless you have an open-ended torque wrench setup there’s almost no way to properly torque it. I tried crows feet sockets but the drive portion is under the pump body so there’s no way to get an extension or ratchet head on it once it’s on the nut. Overall, I fixed the problem for about $1000 less than the dealer quoted and for now I have no leaks and the CEL is gone.
I'm sure you'll be keeping an eye out for leaks, and it will probably continue to be ok. Saving $1000 is music to a DIYer's ears, so hats off to you for getting it done!
Having the same issue on my 2016 cx5, I am reading this forum and noticing you're saying 90 degrees past TDC, is that 90 degrees in relation to the pulley itself? or 90 degrees in timing? I'm fairly fuzzy on this part the rest I am confident on.
I am in the process of doing this. The service manual calls for rotation of the crankshaft 90 degrees past TDC.
I did not see any marks (indent, or notch) on the pulley itself except for some paint. I did rotate it to where I thought it should be.
I did not have a chance to see if there is a mark closer to the TDC markings.
With it in its current position, I should be able to see if there is one closer to the inside of the pulley.
I am assuming Mazda wants it rotated for a reason.
