Angry High Pressure Fuel Pump Failure

The high pressure fuel pump in my 2017 Mazda 6 Atenza has failed and the car has only done 80,000km. How long should such a part last under normal driving conditions and is this a common fault?

I've seen these motors do 200,000kms without issues, unfortunately you've had bad luck. Not a common fault. I've seen a few fail, not many.

Have a look,

Many thanks for that. Mine is petrol, not diesel - does that alter your view on longevity?

No, it doesn't alter my view. Both the high pressure pumps in the petrol's & diesels are usually very reliable.

Default High Pressure Fuel Pump Failure

Just diagnosed - 2018 CX-5 only 53,000 miles.

Sounds like covered by powertrain warranty but dealer telling me that fuel pressure sensor needs to be replaced & that is not covered. That makes no sense

Just had in tank pump replaced under recall two months ago. Timing seems suspicious but not sure if related.
