The CX-5 is otherwise such a fun and well-designed car, but for a fix to take so long for the irritating and baffling USB/Bluetooth bugs, Mazda is obviously not giving a fix a top priority and sometimes I wonder if they really are giving it any attention at all. If they really did put even a small team dedicated to this problem, they could probably have a fix available in a month or less.

Just bought a 2014 CX5 Saturday and noticed the ipod issue and started searching online and here I am... I traded in a Dodge Journey for this mainly for the gas mileage advantage, assuming that it had ipod connectivity. Well, come to find out that it's like buying a tv that always starts at channel 1 after powering it up, unbelievable.

Default Same iPod Issue with 2015 CX-5

Bought a 2015 CX-5 last week and it has the same iPod connectivity issues as the 2014 model. Extended delay in syncing or it does not sync at all. When it does start playing, it always starts from the first song (alphabetically) stored on the iPod (4th Gen Nano).

I just wanted to report the issue in case others were wondering about the 2015 model. I read through this thread and it seems as though Mazda is "working" on a fix, which I hope includes an update for the 2015 model. Very surprising that this problem exists on a 2014/2015 stereo system.

I have the 2015 as well and everything is great on it except for the head-unit with Ipod. My pandora does not want to work now and I don't know why. If it continues I will go to the service department and complain. The email I sent to Mazda didn't do anything. I came from a 2013 Sonata that at least had a great stereo and the sub-par stereo I paid extra for on the GT bose package is very disappointing and I am truly hoping they will fix it soon.

Default Smoke anyone?

I brought my 2014 CX5 in for it's first (5,000) service and was told by the service manager it is only a problem with the I-Phone 4's. The 3's and the 5's work fine. I have the I-Phone 4s. Does everyone on this thread have a 4? Or is Mazda blowing smoke at it's Dealers as well?

Just received this from the Director of Customer Service for Mazda NA.
-----
Robert,
I checked with Kiri as she is most current on our update status and timing.
She will reach out to you with the most current info. An update is coming
to address your concerns, timing is a little fluid but it is coming based
on most recent information. Thanks for being patient and I am sure Kiri
will be able to guide you through this.

Director, Customer Service Operations
Mazda North American Operations
----
When I hear from Kiri @ Mazda NA, I'll share the results of our conversation. I asked this person point blank if I should just give up hoping it will be fixed since this defect made it to the 2015 line, and he said no. Perhaps they will resolve this....

Bought my ’14 CX-5 one year ago this month. Been talking to the dealer and to Mazda Customer Service ever since about the ‘infotainment’ module problems we’ve been discussing here. Poor or no iPod connectivity, no Bluetooth music shuffle (unless you use the voice command ‘shuffle all’ which works for about one minute and then quits), voice recognition that thinks ‘navigation’ is ‘main menu’ and ‘Newark, New Jersey’ is ‘Essex, Iowa.’

The friendly folks at Mazda Customer Service told me via e-mail that the system is ‘working as designed.’ So about three months ago, I wrote to the office of the president of Mazda USA, and received a phone call about a week later from someone there. The conversation was comical, and went on and on as the representative tried to tell me everything was as intended. Here’s the gist of part of it (I’m paraphrasing, but pretty close):

me: Why does my iPod take 8 to 10 minutes to connect and then not function or display properly once it does?

Mazda: The system is operating as designed.

me: Well then, why would Mazda intentionally design a system to take 8 to 10 minutes to connect and then not operate properly?

Mazda: (silence)

The conversation went on like that for most of the Infotainment Module issues I brought up.

SO, I quit, I’m done. Worse than the fact that Mazda put an obviously untested, inferior piece of equipment in the front of the dashboard for us to look at all the time (and accept the Tom Tom agreement every time we start the car), they’ve proven time and time again since then that they are simply not interested in making things right. And, if what another group member posted the other day about the same module appearing in the 2015 CX-5 is true, that confirms it. A year is about 9 months too long to wait for a fix. Thanks goodness it wasn’t safety equipment as with GM and Toyota.

Has anyone installed an after-market replacement radio/CD/GPS/bluetooth module? Any recommendations? Would appreciate your thoughts. I’m whooped, time to throw in the towel here.

BTW, thanks very much to the member who organized the petition!

How is functionality with other phones and mp3 players besides Apple? I'm in the market for a new phone and wondered if other brands work any better. I've heard Moto-X works well.

Default RESPONSE TO OTFidler

As I have previously written in this blog, I to wrote the Mazda Us President and received a similar laughable call from the so called monitor of this forum. The President will not respond in writing. The usual answer is "We are aware of the problem and are working on it." They will not respond in writing in any way. They will not provide any statement that the problem will even be fixed. The answer " It is working as designed" is a legal response. They will not provide an admission of fault. They believe - and they are probably right - that none of us have the resources to fight this. Look at what has happened at GM. It took 10 years and 13 deaths (at least) for them to admit fault. Auto makers have perfected the Stonewall tactics, and politicians have reduced consumer protection agencies to a laughingstock.

I believe the best approach to getting this solved is to get some media attention. Perhaps provide a copy of the petition and a letter from each person on this Forum to every car reviewing magazine and company site including Blue Book and JD Powers. If anyone knows someone at the major networks, then contact one of the network investigating reporters.
