Are 2.5t head issues limited to USA/MX only?
We are looking at a Japanese built, NZ sold, 2020 2.5T Takami.
Does the cylander head cracking coolant issue apply to Jap versions? Most accounts I'm finding online are USA/MEX.
What else should we be aware of?
Always had Mazdas and love them, but we are a bit sentitive on the Cx5 as our current 2015 2.2d is now heading to scrap after only 170,000km. (In saying that our 2.5 wagon is at 250,000km so can't complain there).

All CX-5 for world export are made in Hiroshima, Japan.
The turbo head issue is not a common issue, meaning the majority of vehicles have not seen the problem.
A TSB is issued when a certain percentage of vehicles have an issue/complaint, there is no recall.
Check to see if your vehicle you are looking at has had the fix done or if it is displaying the symptoms of the possible issue.
The CX-5 has a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

What Lobstah posted...
to add TSB in the hands of non-Mazda service technicians often create fear factors (my descriptive definition) in owners that are not data documented by the number of cases vs how many units actually manufactured. In fact, if those that have actual access to Mazda service Data bank information most cases having to do with the TSB relating to the head (or many TSBs) Mazda either authorized the warranty replacement or the dealership did a courtesy adjustment of the replacement. NO HEAD as of this post by me has been has been factually identified yet and reported confirming the absolute information as to the random low evet cause of some heads randomly (VIN) prematurely failing. NONE!
And those bs Class action suits , I suggest people should learn completely about them how they start and how many actually settle and consumers get paid out and how much?
The best that anyone can do is as soon as they show any signs like DTC's,unusual or excessive oil consumptions, oil leaks ,poor engine performance etc., to go to MAZDA dealership ASAP and get it documented as a far as service inspected which will be added to your VIN permanent vehcle history.

Thanks. I'd come to similar conclusions that the frequency was low for this issue. Otherwise the Australian threads would be full of complaints for the 6k Cx9s sold there each year. Instead I found a single comment from an Australian in all the threads.
Anything else we should look out for on this vehicle?

Your last question sort-of... The transmission is stated to be a lifetime no service required but myself and so many shops here in th US have found that if they are not serviced on a regular basis with at least a simple pan filter and oil change at least every 30k miles with a max of 50k miles on the service there will eventually have a negative effect when you get passed 10 years or over 150K miles. Currently if you ask any auto manufacture about this information, they you will get from all them that will respond to the question in the first place is tjhat5 the transmission is covered under warranty as it states and will be covered for any failure up to that point and that that it is a no service transmission. LOL
I see that you are proud owner of a couple or more Mazda's. I guarantee any of them if past 15K miles on the odometer if you were to do a simple pan filter and oil change you would be pretty surprised what you would find. And generally, when really bad things happen inside a transmission they don't always give a warning in advance. that is why when I post this I often get members claiming X=80-150k+ trouble free miles on their Mazda automatic transmission. But I seldom see them post when it suddenly fails. But we do get at least 2 failed transmission a month in the shop and generally they are from not doing any service even the simple one?
Now watch one of your transmissions will start acting up and you will think I Voodooed it LOL
Kia Ora Pernod,
I too am a Kiwi.
I never saw any cylinder issues with the 2.5T engine when I worked in NZ, now i've moved to OZ I've seen two CX-9s (2.5T) come through my dealership with head issues. Haven't seen any petrol CX-5s with head issues yet.
