Question “Chirp” sound when auto transmission shifts

We just bought a 2019 with about 66000 miles on the clock. It runs and drives great but it has a weird “chirp” noise as it up shifts. Anyone else have this? I’m not making this up. My wife hears it also.

Welcome to the forum

This could be anything and not actually TEST DRIVING your vehcle it would be hard to say.

The chirp definition you use is not uncommon with many platforms but generally it is when the driver is a bit aggressive on the throttle and it is the sound made between the gears shifting which could be the tires?

You can try to post a short video, but most are not very clear but hey, you can try?

So, my best recommendation is to go to the Mazda dealership service department of find an ASE independent Service shop and have their ASE mechanic or Auto tech go with you for a test drive.

This "chirp" is from the tires but some untrained ears may think it is a drivetrain i.e. transmission sound.

This is from a very modify 2009 Turbocharged PT Cruiser

Thanks,Callisto. I really couldn’t hear any chirps in the video. I don’t think there is any aggressive driving involved since my wife drives like a little old lady. I’ll have it checked out the next time it goes in for something else.

I found the answer: TSB# 05-005/23 issued 1/21/23
“This may be caused by the auto transmission fluid being contaminated by iron powder due to excessive wearing of the lock up clutch in the torque converter. “

Now I’ll probably have to argue with the dealer we just bought this from. They’ll probably tell me I should have purchased an extended warranty.

Your Mazda drivetrain warranty may .no cover it because you are 6k out
The argument may not work because the condition of the TSB would have been long before the miles on your transmission.
Unfortunately, that TSB is very specific having only to do with those two specific gears 3rd and 4th only.
You may be able to ask them to check the VIN history to see if any previous owners had this concern as it would have been logged into the permanent VIN history. If it was you may at least have some support to ask them if they would escalate to Mazda corp. But be advised if you do and Mazda corp rejects it your are sol for a dealer to do some form or courtesy service at a discounted rate.
The other thing you could do is have the dealership dop a pan and filter service and ask that you see the magnet as well the pan what was in it. The slim chance you find large metal partials could help you with negotiating a deal to service the cause of the issue? But it will tale some convincing on your part to separate the oil from the metal partials. If you want to go that route I can explain how to do that. But this is only a Hail Mary attempt to get your problem (if it isas of this moment has not been confirmed to be the problem ).

If you read and understand the TSB you will see that it is more or less dealer discretion and only if the Mazda is still in the warranty period. Sorry but I am one that feels consumers should not be using TSB because most have no clue their complete meaning. Mazda even tried to point that out to have the disclaimer information on every page of a TSB for consumers reading them.. This is why I never post them on any platform and I have access to most all for various platforms under our shops licensing.

I did forget to mention I found a flaw in that TSB service procedure. LOL
They should have had me prof read it?
Oh wait I use to do that once upon a time in another life and platform. hahahaha!
