Angry A $2000 solenoid!..what gives?

I recently purchase a 2016 CX5 with approximately 140k (kilometers). The vehicle was well maintained and runs great. After driving 250 kilometers the engine light came on and the AT light shortly afterwards. I took it to a Mazda a dealer who diagnosed it as "DTC P0741 TCC control solenoid stuck off" I took the vehicle to my own mechanic who confirmed this. He then ordered the solenoid from the same dealer. Their parts man unfortunately sent what appeared to be the pressure control solenoid. After some discussion they told my mechanic that the correct solenoid is part of a set and the solenoid could not be purchased individually. The price a scary $2000 Canadian!

The transmission seems to shift normally through all gears. Fuel economy is as good or better than spec. I would appreciate any suggestions or where I may be able to source this solenoid. Greatly appreciate help/ thanks Rob.

Have you tried checking out parts prices from on-line sources, such as Rock Auto or some of the on-line dealers who sell Mazda parts at a discount? I know that getting parts across the border may be a challenge, but perhaps there is some help there....

Try going thru a transmission specialist.

Or take you chance with a dismantler / used parts dealer.

A part that's only available as part of a set indicates that it's not usually replaced individually; likely only needed as part of a full rebuild. This indicates that the OEM estimated it would last the life of the transmission, so finding a good used one shouldn't be that big a gamble.

Wow, that is indeed expensive. Hope you find this part for a more reasonable price somewhere else.
