Shift lock

Should I be able to shift into gear Auto Trans)without depressing the shifter button? I drive with my hand on the shifter and it went into another gear w/o me depressing the button

Within reason yes, depending on what gear/position it was in to start with. Why don't you keep both hands on the wheel?
