Default Shift lever

I purchased the 2019 CX5. The lock button on the shift lever does not work. With a slight tough it easily shifts into neutral. I was told by the dealer it’s supposed to be that way; so I asked why is it there? I was told to move the lever to the manual. Unfortunately it slides into manual without the lock button being activated.
Anyone else have this safety issue?

Does it work if you try to put it into park or reverse? If so, it's working as designed.

There is no lock function between drive & neutral.

Thank you for such a quick reply. I’ve had the shift fall into neutral on two occasions so I became concerned. I’ll just need to avoid resting my hand on the shift lever.

Thanks!

That's a good habit to break. It can be especially bad if you drive a manual as it can strain the transmission if you put pressure on the shifter and cause wear.
