Default '23 CX30 just died?

We have a '23 CX30 with 15k miles. We received some weird warning about the headlights not working and yesterday it just died in our garage. All the lights came on when I pushed the Start button but the engine didn't fire. It seems to be some type of electronics issue. We called the Mazda dealership today and were told their first appointment was next Friday! It can't be driven, so we called Mazda Roadside Assistance and had it towed to the dealership anyway. We are hoping they get to it in the next few days.

We've owned a '17 CX5 and a '20 CX30 prior to this and have never had any issues. This is really surprising for a car that has been on the market for several years and has a reputation for reliability. Has anyone else had this happen?

Honestly until you know what happened making assumptions based on the little information so far you gave and then getting a bit negative towards Mazda in general ?
Not sure how that serves you or members reading?

You never even mentioned checking the battery? or considering scanning your ECU to check for vital information related to the no start. And then sorta complained about your appointment position and when Mazda service could see you. Do you think they may be busy with others that came before you?

Well post up what Mazda service finds happened . Maybe ask how they found the problem so next time you may be able to do at least obtains a bit more info so a forum like this some members may be able to suggest things you might be able to do to correct or service the issue yourself?

No need to be snarky. We are on our third Mazda. '17 CX-5, '20 CX-30 and now '23 CX-30. We've had no issues until this. They are great cars. And why should I check the battery if the screens still light up and the headlights come on? There was some type of warning light that came on saying headlights weren't working the day before but they were still working, which is the reason we think it has to do with the electronics. I don't do self-diagnosis. That's why we have a good relationship with the dealership.

I will post when the issue is resolved. And I asked if anyone else had had the same issue. I didn't ask to be lectured.

You asked for advise and if you came into the shop either I or one of my techs the first thing in your case is to check and verify the condition of the battery and its connections. Then you go to the ECU.
If you can’t do that someone else can help you.

Goodluck at the dealership. Would love to have you post the end service write up

I'm always willing to admit when I'm wrong. The dealership completed service today and it was indeed the battery. You were correct. They did a couple of other 12k mile services since the car has 15k on it. I'm still surprised the battery would go at 15k miles but at least it happened in our garage and Mazda towed it to the dealership.

I wasn't trying be negative in the OP. Our Mazdas, and the service we've received from the dealership, have been stellar. I would trade my A4 in for a Mazda6 if they ever decide to launch again in the US.

Thank you for the update, glad it worked out.

The most likely reason the battery went so soon may simply be things like when it was in route to the dealership something could have been left on causeing the battery to discharge and needing a hot jump. Then there is also the lot drain as I call it. When the new vehicle is shuffled around the sales lot. Again if something got left on the battery discharges and generally get another hot jump. Do that a couple of times and the battery stares to age quickly.

Also there is the thing I mentioned that unless you got the correct coding off the battery you have no idea the actual age of the battery. The good thing is that the warranty started from day one of ownership and not the production date.

A recommendation that will not void any warranty is to add at least one addition larger gauge ground cable coming off the battery to a different location other than where the factory has the ground. Leave that but add the additional one.
For the most part the positive cable is fine.

I also want to say thank you for the good comments about your dealership. You may want to post the name for others members and guest that may live in the Dallas area can read your review of them

We have leased our last two CX-30s from Metro Mazda of Mesquite, outside of Dallas. Not only do we feel their Sales department is "low pressure" and great to deal with, but their service department has also been a pleasure to work with. They didn't have an appointment until the following Friday when our battery died, but they worked us in and finished the job on Tuesday. Big Thumbs Up for Mazda of Mesquite.
