Default Liftgate not locking

Hi All,
This is my first Mazda and so far it is great. It is a 2016 CX-3 Akira and I've had it for a couple of weeks. I've now found that the Liftgate does not lock and I'm unsure whether this is a fault or whether I'm not doing something or there is a setting that needs my attention. Any help will be most appreciated before I see about getting it fixed (if, indeed it is a fault).
Thanks,
Ray

Lock the vehicle with the remote.

Walk 5 meters away, leave your remote there,

Walk back to the car and check the boot,

Is it locked?
The top spec model senses when you walk up to the boot & unlocks it to save you finding the remote when your hands are full with shopping/groceries.

Thanks Grim Reaper. I actually went to a Mazda dealer today and they told me the same thing. I was unaware that the liftgate had a proximity senser. I did the same as you suggested and it locks, so now all good and I'm happy. Thanks for replying.
