Timing wont stay set

Default Timing wont stay set

B2200, just rebuilt.

What would cause the timing to keep changing each timeI check it?

Set it at 6*. Drove it 3 blocks..it was at 10*. Set it at 6* again...drove 3 blocks and it was at 4*. Im so confused... Could it be a loose timing belt?

Is the vacuum advance connected or disconnected when you set or check the timing? If connected, engine rpm can affect the vacuum.

Thanks for the reply. It was simply an inconsistent idle speed. Thought my ear was good enough to judge RPM but apparently not!

So Doug, what was causing the inconsistent idle speed? 'Had to be some other problem or it would be more steady.

Weber carb. Electric choke. I think I need to jet-up too. Anyway, its running great now. Just needed to full warm up and set/check it. Too used to FI I guess (and tachometers )

Yup, it helps to have the engine fully warmed up before trying to set the timing.

Why do you feel the need for bigger jets?

Where in Austin are you?

SW Austin, Oak Hill area.

Unless I have a vacuum leak I cant find, I'm having to richen the mixture more than the 2.5 turns that Weber claims would be sufficient. I'm at 3.5 turns. Although it runs great, if my first milelage test comes out poor I think it may need different jets.

The block is bored over, and it has one of those pacesetter headers on it (POS I know, but more flowing than the 200lbs of crap that was bolted on there previously).

We shall see!
