Mazda BT 50 & Pickup Trucks While Mazda may not be known for their trucks, they have always produced quality reliable trucks for both hauling cargo, or simply crusing. BT 50

Hi. Just joined here, decided to post in the truck forum instead of the general new members area. Hope that's okay. I recently acquired a '91 B2200 2wd/automatic with 150.000 miles from an elderly family member that had it since new. It was sitting in their basement garage for the last 2 years, collecting dirt and being used as a storage container. Naturally, I went through the entire truck..Fuel system/cooling system including water pump/timing belt/entire ignition minus distributor/oil/trans/rear end/brakes/wheel bearings.

Used this site to repair the light multi switch on the steering column. I thought after running it about 500 miles that I was mysteriously losing coolant in the reservoir with no apparent leaks. Plugs look fine, leak down test results were slightly less than 2% loss on all 4 cyl with no bubbles in the open radiator fill hole. Turns out, after I downloaded the shop manual, that I didn't put the entire 7.9 or 8 quarts of coolant in. So it's all good now. No leaks anywhere on the truck surprisingly. No smoke and no apparent oil consumption(1200 miles in now, still at the same level on the dip stick). I was going to drive it until I painted and replaced the suspension and rebuilt the KA24 on my '94 Nissan D21, but now I'll keep it. Auto trans isn't my favorite but it is nice for the traffic around here. The Nissan is slammed, so it is nice to have stock ride height not riding shaved bump stops haha.

Welcome to the forum! I have a 1991 B2600i Cab Plus with the auto trans and I love it......been driving it for years. I believe the rear end gear ratio in the auto trans B2600i trucks, are the lowest ratio (numerically) differentials of this generation of trucks, so when you get on an interstate or highway where you can cruise at 60 to 65 mph, it actually gets good gas mileage! I have gotten 25/mpg with mine on the highway before, but average around 16/mpg in town, stop & go traffic.
Mine is all stock also.

Thanks. Yeah it seems to do around 2200-2300 RPM between 65 and 70. The MPG I'm getting is in the same ball park as what you reported. These are pretty well put together trucks.

Nice find !!!

I've had my 1988 B2200 Cab Plus since 1994, it's a 5-speed with Weber and AC (Arizona). Is your 1991 B2200 fuel injected? I'd heard that Pacific states and Canada went to the EFI B2200 while others remained carbureted.

It has the stock carburetor. It was purchased locally in Lynwood, WA. I was in high school at that time..but when these trucks became affordable to my generation I seem to remember the later model ones having EFI..
this one has some strange options. 2wd/automatic trans with bucket seats, cloth on the door interiors, a cassette player(long gone) a tachometer, but no factory A/C and manual windows, no rear glass slider.
It is my understanding that these carbs are a weak point on these trucks, and frequently give people hell. This one seems to be working properly after a cleanup so I'll leave it until it goes sideways. A friend has a Weber sitting around just in case.

My 1988 is an SE-5 model, no tachometer, no cruise control, has power steering and AC (Arizona). All had manual windows, which I like. I added steering wheel and console like you have, from the parts yard. And I have an aftermarket tach, someday will swap in my parts yard tach cluster.

Run the factory carb as long as it works OK.
