Got this beauty 1.5 years ago. Under 200,000 kms from its original owner. Clearly I didn't take as good care of it as the engine has just been declared dead. Anyone ever had any luck replacing the engine in one of these? I don't know if it's worth putting the money into it as I didn't plan on hanging onto it long term. May just price it accordingly and pass it on to an enthusiast who wants a project. *sigh* so sad.
I'm in Arizona, my '88 B2200 has been mine since 1994, and typical for Arizona is rust free. But at 220K miles, started smoking like a cropduster. Figuring that the block would need to be reground, possibly the crankshaft too, I had a local engine rebuilding company do a complete engine remanufacture. So for me, this was worth it. I didn't have room or cherry picker to R&R the engine myself (or a helper), and liked that the company I chose got really good reviews and included engine R&R.
There were two hiccups, a small leak from the oil pan and a trickle of coolant which became a blown freeze plug that afternoon, but the company readily addressed those.
Does your engine turn with key off, in neutral, and a 21mm socket on the big crankshaft (easier with spark plugs removed) ? Or is it "dead" because of a broken timing belt ??? Did you get a 2nd opinion ? Complete engines in Washington state https://www.sandjengines.com/

You can visit the company on YouTube and watch how they build and warm oil break in.
