I want to quit smoking...and ticking.
After jumping back into a Mazda mini after a 20 year break, I’m having flashbacks of ticking lifters/adjusters and startup smoke.
I understand the adjuster/lifter chatter is an inherent design flaw in the 2.2l due to the oil passages being undersized. Startup smoke is valve guide seals, oil control rings, or a combination of both. Obviously you can replace adjusters, seals, and rings, but how long is that fix typically good for?
Is there a more permanent fix to overcome the design flaws? Aftermarket parts, mods to prevent carbon locking, etc?
