B4000 slow to start
I've got a 94 B4000 that is slow to start after it has been sitting a few for awhile. It cranks over fine, but it won't start on the first try. I have to crank it a second time to start. After that it runs great. Could it be fuel or something?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Definitely could be fuel related. When you cycle the key from 'off' to 'run' the fuel pump is energized for a second or two in order to ensure that the fuel system is fully pressurized prior to an attempted start. Try just cycling the key from 'off' to 'run' 2 or 3 times before trying to crank and start and see if it will then start up on first time cranking over. If it does then fuel pressure/volume is being bled off to the fuel tank leaving nothing at the injectors and rails.
Fuel pressure can be bled off by a few things. If it is leaking back to the tank, the check valve in the fuel pump can be faulty. If it is leaking on the engine side, either you have a sticking fuel injector or a fuel pressure regulator with a ruptured diaphragm. All of these can cause an extended crank problem.
I want to replace the fuel filter, I'm sure its original and the truck has 105,000 miles. I found the filter, is it difficult to replace? Know of any write ups on replacing?
THanks.
THanks.
