Default B2600 bad acceleration

Hi all: my friend's 99 b2500 sputters when he steps on the gas (so embarrassing). OBD2 is clear. Cleaned the MAP sensor. We're currently searching for a pressure gauge above 50 to test gas pressure (50 seems like it'd work though). Does anyone have suggestions? is there supposed to be a lot of slack in the accelerator cable (like an inch deflection)?

thanks

Slack in the cable wouldn't cause sputtering. How about new plugs and wires? There are 8 spark plugs in this engine.
