I constantly have strangers, at a gas station or at work in the parking lot, compliment the truck and some even ask if I would sell it (again)......I just smile and say no! 236,000+ miles on it now!
Hey Cusser......I have always wondered why your engine started smoking again after you changed your rings (and pistons if I'm not mistaken). The only thing that I can think of is that if you did indeed swap in new aftermarket pistons (NPR I believe), that they may have had a different expansion rate than the factory Mazda pistons, and therefore created the scuffing that you see on them. I find it interesting how I have reused the factory pistons (on multiple Mazda engines) while only installing new rings on them, after completely cleaning them first, and have not experienced engine smoking for years afterwards.
Yes, in 2011 I used new aftermarket standard size NPR pistons and rings when I did my top-end rebuild at about 180K miles. My connecting rod bearings looked pristine back then as did the crankshaft journals, so I didn't even look at the main bearings that I could've accessed. I did use new connecting rod bearings too. Note how the oil rings are not expanded-out, either stuck or the metal had lost all its tension. I'm not great on cleaning stuff, but by the 2020 engine rebuild my connecting rod bearings were quite worn.
So for me, I think it was best decision to get it professionally rebuilt or I'd need to stop driving it. ABE - I couldn't wait long enough for you to find time to do that for me and ship, and then I'd still need to do the R&R myself.

In my local LKQ, a used B2200 engine lists for $366.00 and then the 90-day guarantee is another $109.00.
And you have to remove the engine yourself. I have rebuilt these engines in the past for $1000.00 to $1500.00, depending on what hard parts & machine work needed to be done.
