Myself, after my re-ring/new pistons/cylinder head remachining job only went like 8 years before smoking returned, I used a local rebuilding company (Phoenix) that did everything including the R&R. Cost was over $3200, in early 2020 just before Covid. But runs good and no longer smokes.
In my local LKQ, a used B2200 engine lists for $366.00 and then the 90-day guarantee is another $109.00.
And you have to remove the engine yourself. I have rebuilt these engines in the past for $1000.00 to $1500.00, depending on what hard parts & machine work needed to be done.
How did you connect the throttle cable? I have the same carb and made an adapter to mount it. But I cannot figure a way to get the cable to connnect without putting a very sharp kink in it. Do you have any pics with it connected?

I looked at three places, got quotes, looked at their shops, stuff like that.
I used Arizona Engine Rebuilding just before the Covid slowdowns; toured their shop, asked what machining they did in-house, stuff like that. They also offer a 3-year unlimited mileage warranty, and I'm past that mark now. My engine still ran, but made too much smoke as the smoke had returned from my in-home top-end rebuild in 2011. They also did the R&R, and I didn't have space or an engine picker. I also asked for my old parts back so I could look at them. My engine needed re-bore for roundness for cylinders, so 0.020 oversize pistons are used; old pistons were pretty scored. What impressed me was that they did NOT try to upsell a new clutch just because it would be extra money, as mine was still good, so I felt honesty. I would not be driving my B2200 today if not for them !
I did my own oil changes during this time, and I checked the head bolts for torque at a few hundred miles/first oil change, just kept the documentation. So 3.5 years later: I'm still happy !!!
Hey Cusser......I have always wondered why your engine started smoking again after you changed your rings (and pistons if I'm not mistaken). The only thing that I can think of is that if you did indeed swap in new aftermarket pistons (NPR I believe), that they may have had a different expansion rate than the factory Mazda pistons, and therefore created the scuffing that you see on them. I find it interesting how I have reused the factory pistons (on multiple Mazda engines) while only installing new rings on them, after completely cleaning them first, and have not experienced engine smoking for years afterwards. I am still driving my 1989 red regular cab B2200 every day to work and I rebuilt that engine (by reusing the original pistons) 12 years ago.
I have said before, and I will swear by it, that the factory parts with these trucks are far superior than any parts we can buy today to repair/replace them.
I have hundreds of new parts stashed away for these trucks currently, including new standard size, and oversized pistons.......but they are aftermarket stuff that I bought years ago.....I will probably never use them.......as I am pretty confident that the old used factory pistons, if not damaged or excessively scuffed, are still superior to those new aftermarket pistons!
