Default Rear Clunking Noise

I have a 2000 626 and when I hit a bump or pothole in the road there is a "clunking" noise heard on the rear passenger side of the car. This does not occur 100% of the time though. I am not sure if this is a problem with a strut, rear sway bar or something else. Any help or imput would br greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I am trying to think what it could be.

What does the noise sound like?

I mean is it a sqeek? or like a knocking noise?

I mean to me it sounds like the strut or something with the spring.

It makes a clunking noise, no squeak, not a knock

i've got a similiar problem as well......dealer told me it was a bushing.....look at the rear of the vehicle from the ground.....there are 2 bushing's attached to the sway bar...one on each side.....they stick straight down from it.....it look's like a short piece of metal with what look's like a tierod end on it...one each end....the top goes one way the bottom goes another.....i think they call it a stabilizer bushing......i had to replace one on the front passenger side before......good luck

anyone else have any ideas about the rear knocking sound?

I checked the bearings and shocks they look good.
I get it from the pass rear side also.
Looked like the bushings may be worn from sight, but the math of it dont add up

Those bushings wouldnt equal to the sound im hearing"i dont think"

any pics of the rear bushings???

I have had the same clunking in the rear suspension of my 2000626for about 2+ years. I finally took my car into the shop and had them check it out, along with some other problems. They said the rear sway bar was loose and clunking around, and that both of the links were shot. I hope that helps!

I have a 2000 626 with same problem. It was the bushings on the sway bar. you can not tell by looking at them that they are worn. Test by removing the rubber bushings, wrap electrical tape around the sway bar to increase the diameter a bit (5 or 6 wraps) and put the bushings and clamps back on. Drive it awhile and I bet the noise will be gone... 2 bushings cost $30.00 at Mazda...

Mine does the same clunking. It's the rear sway bar bushings.
