P1652 code
My 2001 626 is throwing a P1652 code, which comes back as either "Power steering pressure switch circuit" or "Lift/Dive circuit".
Can anyone tell me where the PS pressure switch is located? The engine is 2.0 4-cyl, auto trans.
Is this likely to be a bad switch? I checked the PS fluid level, seems fine.

RE: P1652 code
P1652 is code that is set for Power steering pressure switch stuck on. Most likely is the pressure switch but could also be the wire to the switch is shorted to ground somewhere. Pressure switch is located right on the side of the pump. Would probably want to disconnect single wire connector from switch (#4 in diagram below), and clear the CEL by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. It takes two consecutive drive cycles with a failure present for the DTC to return so may have to drive for a couple of days with switch disconnectedfor code to reset or not. Will not hurt anything to have switch disconnected although you might get a low idle or stall if turning wheel to full lock when parking. If code does not reset then switch is bad, it it does reset even with switch disconnected you have a short to ground somewhere.
OE replacement switch is a little spendy at $106.30.

That's excellent info. Thanks very much. Montgomery Mazda has the switch for $85 plus shipping, but I will follow your steps to trouble shoot it as that is still not a cheapie item even with the discount.

You are very welcome gumpertz. There is a much quicker way to check the operation of this switch but would require the use of a voltmeter which most people do not have unfortunatetly. If you do have one then here is the way to check.
Pull the connector off slightly to allow hookup of red/positive cable to the meter while still maintaining connection with the wire from harness. Black/negative lead to ground.
With engine idling you should have battery voltage. Turn the steering wheel at least 45' and voltage should drop to near zero. Do this multiple times to ensure that it is operating correctly each time.
No voltage drop when turning steering wheel and switch is at fault.
No voltage at all would indicate a shorted wire in the harness.
