mazda transmission fluid help

RE: mazda transmission fluid help
Gear oil level is measured and added by removing the speedometer gear. There's a mark on the gear that indicates normal level of gear oil. Getting to the gear is difficult as it's in the back of the engine down low. Helps to have long skinny arms. You disconnect the speedometer cable and then there's one bolt to remove the gear and cover.
There's usually no reason to check the gear oil unless you've changed the CV joints. If you need to add hypoid oil, it's added where the speedometer gear is removed.

You don't have to disconnect anything to check your MTX gear oil, just use a socket or wrench to remove the fill/check plug. If you're standing in front of your car, the transaxle/transmission is to the left of the driver's side wheel. You'll have to get under that side of the car to see it. You should notice a wire harness going to a sensor just above that sensor you'll see a large 17mm or 19mm plug. Remove that plug and put your finger in the hole if the fluid is right at the lower edge of the hole, you're good. If you can't feel it, you need to add fluid.
