First time post so I wonder if you can help. Bought a 1995 121 and the gearbox/diff has failed. I know there is a Ford/KIa tie-up with this model and I wondered if anybody knew whether a gearbox from another mazda/kia/ford will fit?

Its the "bubble" shaped 121 5 speed manual, 1324cc GLX.

I bought it for my daughter and I'm getting desperate.

They are pretty much the same but some have different mountings, I have the same trouble with my festiva except I think the diff bearings are the problem then they let go and wreck the whole gearbox, the drive shafts are wriggling around and letting the oil out but the rest of the gearbix works fine! see if you can find a wrecker search and they get some quotes! other than that see if it has some numbers on the box as they can often match up
