high idling problem
Hi I have a 92 mazda 323, I just recently bought this car. It has failed the emissions test with a high idling problem. It idles around 2000-2500rpm. It idles like this when I first start the car and lasts for around 10 minutes until it gets warmed up. Then it goes down to 850rpm. Now im just thinking that if I keep the car running for like 15 minutes before doing the emissions test if it would pass, as that is the only problem wrong with it. Any suggestions for me to make this pass?

RE: high idling problem
Try turning on your car when the engine is cold. Leave it run at desired RPM for about 10 seconds, than push the gas pedal to 3000 RPM and the leave. It should stabilize. I have 323 1995 but it has electronic idle regulation and it doesn't go over 1000 RPM. But my former car did the same thing.
Yeah, your exhaust test should be done when your engine is completely warm and well cooled. Next time you'll go to the test, warm the engine up and drive with full RPM in each gear a mile or two. In that case all unnecessary soot will burn out.
Good luck!
