1988 626 - idling at high RPMs
Hi,
We have a 626 that is running very oddly. When you first start the car, the RPMs shoots up to about 4000 which lasts until you push down on the clutch. Pushing down on the clutch causestheRPMs to gradually reduce and settledown around 2000. So whether I'm shifting or just sitting in the idled position, there seems to be some miscommunication or timing issue that occurs between the transmission and clutch system. I have only driven the car several times now in an attempt to gather some information regarding its current condition.
Also, when the car was initially driven off the lot after a recent repair (it had to be towed to the shop after a day of running errandsthat abruptlyended in an episode of shuddering, stalling, and then failing to start again at all), the check engine light was off, but after several minutes of a combination of both highway and city-type driving, the engine light illumnated. The next time the car was started, however, the light was only dimly light, if at all. At the shop a new computer component was installed to correct the appearance of a series of trouble codes involving the air/fuel mixing/delivery system [?]. Perhaps there was some over compensation going on prior to this such that when the properly functioning computer part was installed it threw things out of balance (?... forgive my florid description... I am the female half of this couple and thus the less mechanically savvy).
Ifany new or significant data arises I will be sure to post it as soon as I can. If you have suggestions, thoughts or advice, I would love to hear from you. THANK YOU!!!!

Those were very bad about grit getting into the throttlebody butterfy shafts and causing them to stick. You can try cleaning it but it usually doesnt work. Regular cleaning of the throttlebody is recommended
