Default HelpHelp...rough idle;just bought today

We bought a 99 626 for my 16 year old to drive to school and activities. My husband test drove the car and thought it was fine but when I got in it I noticed it idled very very rough when in drive but if you put it in park it was okay. I am very worried and afraid we may have gotten a problem car. We just bought it TODAY. Someone please tell me this is a simple problem and not the transmission.. The previous buyer bought a rebuilt transmission about a year ago and I saw on her repair records that she was complaining of a rough idle about a month later.

Also, the dash isn't visible hardly at all at night which could be a real problem. Is it hard to replace lights and how do you know if that is the problem? It is completely dark behind the rpm and dim everywhere else.

Thanks in advance.

i dont think that the low idle is a transmission problem... and there is a dimmer on the left hand side just infront of the left/right flasher...

Thanks for the info.

Had it worked on by a great mechanic. THe idle was from worn/broken engine mounts so I had them replaced. The dim dash was two of three lightbulbs burned out/ replaced all three. All this work done for 700 dollars. Car runs wonderful now.
