Default F6 engine performance increase

I live in South Africa and bought a Mazda 323 with an F6 engine (1.6 Carb). It is using a lot of oil, has a lot of mileage. I want to recon the engine, but while I'm busy, maybe spend an extra couple of Rands and get some extra hp. I need some advice. I don't want to convert to fuelinjection, it costs too much.

I have been told that if I gassflow the head, take my cam and let them grind / cut it to a 268 cam (don't know what a 268 cam is), fit a Weber 36 DCD7 Carburettor (which I luckely already have) to it, that I could easily get a 30% power increase.

Could that be true ? (it produces 60 KW right now, add 30 % and we end at 78 KW, WOW !!!) Will I still be able to drive it in town ? Ie, will it idle on it's own (so I don't have to keep one foot on the gas at a robot to keep it going) ?

Please advice.

I'm not sure what year your car is, but performance parts are limited for Mazdas. Going by a carb version car, I would presume at least prior to an 86? Most parts I have seen come from Australia for performance.
