Hey guys.
Last night we purchased the Ignition wire set and changed out all that on the 626. The CEL was blinking before the work had been done, now it's not blinking but still on.
I posted the 4 codes I got from Autozone originally a few posts back. Is it possible the CEL light is still on due the emissions codes?
Also, I have a timing belt question. About how much does it cost to get this repaired?

Did you clear the codes following replacement of the wires and plugs by disconnecting the negative battery cable and stepping on brake pedal for 10 seconds? Codes will not clear by themselves untill something like 60 warm up cylcles. If you did clear then have rechecked and see what else is still there.
Labor is listed at around 4.5 hours to replace the timing belt. Mazda has a killer deal on belt kit for your V6. Kit comes with new belt, both idler bearings and the tensioner bearing for $145.30 MSRP. Is a value line product that is fairly new. Check with dealer using part # KL00-12-207 MV. Should also give some consideration to replacement of water pump and front engine oil seals while everything is apart.

We disconnected the battery for several minutes and the light was on just not blinking. We'll try the thing with the brake in a little bit though.

Was the light on as soon as you started the car after having the battery disconnected or was it off for a time?

 

Ok after we disconnected the battery, I turned the car back on and the light was off for about 10 seconds, then it came on just not blinking like before. Im about to go try the brake thing. Im hoping that works

 

does it run better now?

 

If the light stayed off for 10 seconds then you were probably successful in clearing the codes. If not then it would have been on right after start up. I am with bkey. Is it running better and have you retrieved any new codes?

 

Ok sorry it took so long for me to respond. After changing the ignition wires, the car ran so much better! Last night we changed 3 of the 6 spark plugs (need another tool to do the back 3) and I took it for a short drive and seriously it was amazing!
The car has some serious potential! Couldn't get the CEL to go off even after trying the trick with the brake. Upon start-up, it would be off for a few seconds then it would come on. I know that it needs a new oxygen sensor, that's coming next. Probably the end of next week.
I haven't gotten the codes checked again, won't do that until the oxygen sensor is on.
Im curious how long the timing belt can go, don't want to push it and risk losing everything HA!
Im going to post some pics of under the hood tonight. I have a couple questions about things, one thing in particular that appears to be missing.
