Default 93 Mazda 323, Idle and shaking problems

Greetings All,

I have a recently purchased 1993 Mazda 323 non-turbo automatic. Basically it runs and starts up fine but (1) It seems to idle very high, when I turn it down (via a screw) it seems to want to die and starts vibrating. (2) When the car is idleling there is a lot of vibration especially and lower speeds. I was guesing it may be motor mounts but am not sure. (3) When I did turn the idle down to a more reasonable speed the vibration increased and it wanted to die out. Once I get moving there doesn't seem to be any problem at all.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Vic

PS one other Q, Airconditioning, I don't hear the compressor turning on and off when I play with the switch, anything I can check out myself.

thanks agan.

Default RE: 93 Mazda 323, Idle and shaking problems

There is an idle control air valve that is on the bottom of the throttle body that sounds like it is not working properly. The mileage and age can cause a build up of carbon deposits. These deposits can sometimes be successfully cleaned, and sometimes the valve needs replacing.

The shaking sounds like motor mounts. The rubber is not as flexible and it tears or gets brittle.

The a/c problem is most likely that there is no freon in the system due to leaks. There is safety switches that will not allow the compressor to come on when the system is low.

Thanks for the advice, I pulled out the idle control air valve and cleaned it out. However, the idle seems to have gone even higher?? Any way I can tell for sure if the valve is the problem before I spend $400 on a replacement??

Thanks again.
