Default 93 323 died and won't start

Hi guys,
New to this forum, but have a quick question for a cheap car I bought a few weeks ago. 93 mazda 323 auto. Was accelerating quite hard on her and it was at about 6500 rpm. Just as it was shifting gears the check engine light came on and the engine quite. It will not start now, it still turns over though. Easy fix?
Thanks a lot,
Matt

I'm thinking "Timing Belt". If so, it isn't exactly that I'd term an "Easy fix", but it isn't major engine surgery either (assuming your engine isn't an inteference engine which I don't believe it is).

Thanks for the idea. Will check. Was hoping it was just the fuel injection fuse or something, but they seem to be good. Wish I would have been a little easier on the old girl..

Do the normal checks first - i.e. check fuel is getting through and that you are getting a spark to the plugs. Cam & cranks position sensors can cause this type of issue as well.

check the autobox has oil in it

Worst case- but taking a near 20 year old car to 6500 revs you may have blown the head gasket. Not sure what these engines look like (my 92 was a 626 - which blew a head gasket), although u normally get some white smoke with that. Check for oil in the coolant, water on the plugs
