626 v6 shuts of when hot.
Hi everyone,
Just went for a trip to Gothemburg Sweden from Malmö (about 150 miles) it was pooring rain on our way there and the car ran perfectly.
On our way back home there was no rain an the car just died out without a cough or warning as soon as it reached "working" temperature.
I walked to the nearest gas station and called for assistance. When they arrived I cranked the engin just for **** and giggles and the car started and ran perfectly again...I ran it hot and it died out again!!! I guess the rain cooled the engine (or the part that gets overheated) on our way up. I usually only drive short distances and the car seldom reach working temperature for a longer period of time. However, this "sudden death" has happend two times before with weeks between them within the last two months.
The car is a 92 mazda 626 with a 2,5 v6 engine.
Does anyone have a clue of where to start looking? I would guess it is an electrical issue since the car dies out just like that...with no warning what so ever.
I apperechiate all suggestions.

RE: 626 v6 shuts of when hot.
Loss of spark due to failing distributor was a common cause of sudden stalling and then restart if let sit for a while. Would you be able to let warm up untill stalls and then remove a spark plug wire to see if you have lost ignition spark? Also does the car have manual transmission or automatic.

Hi Babyhuey!
the car is a 5 speed manual.
I have already changed the distributor six months ago...then the car just died and never started again. However, i put in a used distributor... maybe this one is failing as well.
I saw that there was an exhaust pipe running just under the distributor. I wonder if the heat from the exhaustpipe could overheat the ditributor in some way? Will try to put som insolation around the pipe to see if that solves it.
I am positive that this is an electrical problem because the nature of the stall... I will check the spark next time to be completely shure though.
If you come up with other ideas pleas post it here!
Thanx
