Default 626 transmission problem?

Hi I have a 99 mazda 626 and I need some help. When driving it doesn't like to shift into second, it revs way up and I need to pump the gas a few times for it to shift, and it wont shift into third. It doesn't slip at all. The ATF is at the right level and its pritty clean. I was wondering if this would be a problem with the valve body or solenoids? I hoping to fix it without taking the trans out. Please let me know what you think
Thanks

From what I understand about those transmissions, they are weak are prone to many problems. Good used ones are a crapshoot at best.

My advice would be to take it to a trans shop that knows these tranny's (and get a second opinion from another shop too), but expect to see them run when you pull up.
Sure, its going to cost you, but its better than throwing parts at it for months only to be back where you started from. These are complicated beasts, prone to trouble with a lot of electronics over the hydraulics.

thank you for the advice. I was a little nervous about putting in a used tranny because this is my second 626 and both of them have trans. problems I didn't want to spend abunch at a junkyard to find out its broken.
Off To the shop
