626 knocking noise
Okay, a few months ago the car ran very low on oil and started making a knocking noise. It's quite loude on start up for a few seconds then stops, and starts again when revs reach 2.5-3k. anyone know what it is. I'm fairly handy with the tools(just got the engine back in my alfa after getting heads skimmed) and want to fix the problem before it ***** itself completely. It's an '85 2.0L 626
any helps appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like it needs a crankshaft and bearings. Depending on the condition of the rest of the engine an overhaul would be a good idea. However you might get lucky and pull the pan and only have to roll bearings in.

RE: 626 knocking noise
Thanks,
I was hoping it would only be bearings.
It actually started to get worse today, I'll have to look at it soon. The car belongs to my dad, so it'll only get whats needed to get it back in order, I'm only driving it til my alfas back on the road.
Is there a workshop manual somewhere on the net?

RE: 626 knocking noise
Before you actually pull the engine remove the drive belts to make sure it is not the p/s pump. I have seen them knock just like a rod knocking. People brought me their 626 knocking and said they had 2 estimates to overhaul it for the rod knock. I checked it out and it was the p/s pump. They were happy campers. It is rare but just be sure.
