Default 1998 626 LX trunk release problem

I had a little accident, and wound up having the driver's door replaced. Afterwards, the remote trunk release would not work. All the other door and window switches on the door work fine. I opened the door panel, and tried jumpering the two wires to the switch; no luck.

Is there a separate fuse for the release? There's no mention of one in the manual.

Is there a small but important difference in the harness or connector, from the LX to the higher lines? People have mentioned a valet switch or security system as a possible cause, but this car came with neither. The window from the new door has a security system sticker, and the harness had a wire and bulb attached, inside the door. The inside panel doesn't have a fixture for the bulb.

Any suggestions?
