1988 mazda 323 se 4 cyl 1.6l no start
ok problems, car wont start. i was driving for maybe 5 mins, went to shift into second, car loses power as soon as i let off clutch and press gas, distributor cap was loose, got some moisture inside but dried out, car will crank over, gets gas and spark, small amount of white smoke comes OUT of air INTAKE and smells like burnt gas. no idea, wont start pissing me off, any idea? and something (sounds like around o2 sensor/coil area) clicks when gas is applied

If it just stopped, it sounds like something electrical went. The ignition coil is easy to get to. There is a pickup coil in the distributor. I know you said you get spark, but I replaced my distributor recently for similar symptoms. The spark would come and go. I couldn't find just the pickup coil.

ok, so i got some time, pulled off the timing belt cover, and lo and behold, there sits a piece of rubber, theres oil all over the place in there, and my car wont start, timing looks ok, BUT is there an oil seal or gasket in there i should know about? ive looked in my chiltons manual but i cant find anything

its not the spark, its got an extremely good spark, what im thinking is that the distributor may have slipped out of place, or possibly even the timing if said piece of rubber got caught in the belt and went around the camshaft jumping the time, but it should still start although it would run roughly, it would still start so i have no idea
