won't start
I just got a 1987 glx and the person before me grounded the alt. and blew the main fuse. replaced that and the alt. the car will turn over but won't start. I tested the coils, angle sensor, and when I jump the yellow connector the fuel pump comes on put will not start. He also tried to use a little bit of starting fluid and it still will not fire up. I show to be having fire coming from the coils. I am now lost. can any one help me.

87 glx being an RX7??. It is probably flooded. Very, very, very common. Remove all four spark plugs, noting which plug wire goes where. Gas pedal mashed to the floor and crank the engine untill fuel vapor quits pouring out of spark plug holes. (make sure to unplug the crank angle sensor at left front top of engine so you are not getting spark from the plug wires too by the way. Once engine is deflooded then put in some new NGK spark plugs and see if it will fire up then.

What controls the fuel pump. I found it is not coming on when the key is in the run postion. I can make it come on by doing the jumper at thr yellow two pin connector. Could it be a computer problem if so which one.

RE: won't start
When I got the car the main fuse was blown from grounding the alt and the alt was also bad. Is there any way to check which computer controls the fule pump and check it out. I still think this is my main problem.

When you cycle the key off then on the ecu sends a signal to a fuel pump relay thus sends voltage to the fuel pump.So therefor the fuel pump will come on momentarily every time the key is cycled providing the fuses are all good, fuel pump has a good negative and the ecu is good.I recomendeven if you have already checked all of these items to recheck them there are fuses you may have missed ,look under the hood and inside the vehicle and use a curcuit tester.Find the connector to the fuel pump this sometimes can be diffecult to locate it may not even be accessable without lowering the fuel tank but the harness along theunderbody should be.Check for a negative by using a multimeter and checking continuity from negative on fuel pump harness or connector to body of vehicle. If you have determinedall is good you probably need an ecu.
