Has anyone had experience disabling the air pump or other smog equipment on a mid 80's Mazda? My 86 B2000 seems to run better with the 3 air pump injection hoses disconnected from the air cleaner than with them on....Any suggestions? thanks...

The air cleaner contains 3 reed valves. The most common failure is a restriction in the monolithic converter which destroys a reed valve resulting in exhaust gas being pumped into the carb/air cleaner.
