Default Running rough

I have a 1985 RX7 12A with 74000 miles and in mint condition. It runs thru 1st and 2nd fine but at the top end of 3rd, thru 4th and 5th it runs very "sluggish". Almost like it is starved for fuel. Talked to a mechanic and he suggested to replace plugs, distributor and rotar. I did that and it still does it. What else should I be looking at? There is no fuel injection and from what I can tell (because I am not a mechanic) and it looks like there is no fuel filter. Can someone please help me. I love this car. I had an 82 identical to this when I first got married. Then we had kids. Its worth what ever I have to put into it.

The fuel filter is at the left rear wheel underneath.

Hello to all. I am new to the forum, I recently bought a 97 Miata 1.8 F.I.with 127k and it ran beautifully for couple of weeks and is now getting progressivly worse in the same dept. It runs ok until it warms up, then starts to act like it has bronchitis(heavy hesitation and not an affliction forthe ford vehicle) at around the 2-3k prm range. this is scaring the crap out of me as I haven't even made a payment yet and it was fine when the mech looked at it before I bought it. could I have the same problem? F.I.?, fuel filter?, plug wires?, what should I replace first? they all look like they are in good condition and the O2 sensors were recently replaced? HELP.

A good tuneup is recommended every 60k miles which should help pinpoint the problem.

thanks Hixx,
I will be able to do that as soon as I get the book for the car. As for right now I have put this post on a few places and found out the problem (potentially) and ordered the parts for the car. My next question is will my driving style cause this next coil pak to burn out quickly( i like to keep the rpms low for fuel ecomony) should I buy a stronger coil pak or just use that money on the fuel i won't save?
