Default Rough Acceleration After Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Mazda 3

2016 Mazda 3 Sport with SkyActive motor w/ 70k miles - starting with hesitation, rattling noise, and poor performance when accelerating, no issues at idle. Noticeable impact on gas mileage as well.

After a day or so of this issue happening sporatically it threw code P0017 - Crankshaft Position per basic scanner at Autozone.

Replaced the crankshaft position sensor, disconnected the battery, reconnected battery, and started driving. Problem seemed to be better briefly, then reappeared. Engine recorded same P0017 code.

Did I miss a "relearn" process? Does something need to be done by the dealer to reset? Did I misdiagnose?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

P0017 - Crankshaft Position - Camshaft Position Correlation This basically the Cam & crank sensor not aligning to TDC at the same time, often caused by a worn ( not streached) timing chain.

What diagnosis did you carry out to require replacing the crank position sensor?
