Radiator fan: 1993 Protege
EDIT: As soon as I posted here I realized it should have gone to the Protege forum. Sorry!
Hi,
Here I am approaching another summer with my trusty beater. 1993 Protege with about 280k miles, and it looks like every one of those miles were hard. I should post pictures so you all can have a good laugh. Been with this girl for fourteen years. Paid $1400 for it back then. It's been super cheap transpo all these years. Anyhoo...
I've been living with the radiator fan not working for about three years. I keep thinking I'm about to be done with this car, but I just keep on keeping on with it. About a year ago I did the jumper test that confirmed the fan spins, so I bought a new relay but that didn't fix it. A year later (Today) I tried that jumper test again and fan no spinny, so I disconnected the fan and ran 12VDC directly to it and it spins. I then did the current test, supposed to be 6.6 +/- 1, and it read 4.3. My fan motor seems out of spec, but is that enough for it to not work at all? I hate dumping even a penny into this car, and don't want to buy a fan motor unnecessarily. But at the same time I loath going another summer with the radiator fan not working. What do folks here think?
Thank you!
Gary
