A vacuum leak is quite possible, it can cause a high idle. Use some common carb cleaner and spray all around the intake, if there is a vac leak, the engine will rev faster when you find it. Timing can cause high idle if it is very advanced, but you would complain of a slow cranking speed. You would think the battery was almost dead while cranking. Another possibility is the idle speed control motor on the throttle body that could be inop or stuck from never being cleaned. Is there a check engine light coming on? What engine do you have and how many miles? And I presume a 626 not a 676.
