What is a B...
Breather filter or breather cap?
What is it and when do you need it or why would you?
I just was wondering because I saw one on a car and I was thinking what is that?
Just wondering what it does, does it improve any thing?
I know weried or dumd question but eh I have no idea and I though I would ask.

umm..a breather filter is a small filter that goes on part of the engine, usually the valve cover whch helps you release crankcase pressure, normally on older, or very high performance vehicles. my old dodge gas one on both valve covers, and the reason that you do this, and not just have a hole there, is that it can omit some oil. on newer cars, this crankcase pressure is released by means of a vent hose which vents back into your air intake system.
So since my 323 is a 92, does that mean I can have one?
I mean would it improve any thing?
I mean since my car is so small I doubt it would do any thing but just at to the look.

If your car did not come with one, there is no place to put one. The purpose is to filter the incoming air into the engine, usually on the valve cover. They are common on V8's. There is a breather on one valve cover and a PCV valve on the other. There is manifold vacuum on the PCV side so there has to be a way to let clean air into the engine. The PCV sucks out the oil fumes from combustion and burns them back through he engine. It is just a recirculating process. Air into the breather, out through the PCV.
If you have no PCV valve, the breathers just vent. If you have a PCV valve, the brather is just like the air filter for the engine. The purpose of the PCV is to relieve crankcase pressure and to prevent gasket failure and oil leaks.
oh ok I have a PCV value, accually I just replaced the old one. I was just wondering because I saw some hot 323 had one and I was like....er whats that? So I was just wondering what is did. So basically unless I wanted it to look pretty there is no need for me to get one.
right?
right?
well, so long as you have a PCV tube which goes back into the air inlet pipe, you dont need one...you can always swap one in, more of a show item on a stock car though..on my V8,i have to have them.
