ok well my 99 miata has been in the shop twice for the clutch and it is still acting up, first time it went in they replaced the master clutch, and the second time they replaced the whole clutch system but the problem is, that whenever i start up my car and push in the clutch it is real loose and will not go in gear i have to pump the clutch alot till it gets stiff then it will go in gear fine. and also when i am driving and have not switched gears in awhile it will do the same thing were i can not get out of gear so i pump the clutch get it out of gear then pump the clutch more to put it in the disired gear. i cant find what the problem is

 

If the act of pumping it helps the situation I would guess it may have a hydraulic clutch?

Have you checked your hydraulic fluid level or looked for any leaks in the hydraulic line?
