Default Cutting loops out of stock springs??

Hello I was just wondering if anyone ever try cutting loops out of the stock springs to lower the car with out spending the money on lowering springs , I have a 92' Miata and will like to lower it 1.5" from stock , I know this is the way our fathers did it before all the after market catalogs and parts where part of the every day tunning ,so is not just some crazy idea of mine.

Yeah, people have tried it and it works, but you will have a much bumpier ride. By cutting the springs, you are taking away some of the shock abosorbancy making it very easy to feel a little bump in the road. Yes it is nice to not have to pay to lower the car, but you will pay the price in the long run. Best thing to do is save the money and buy a nice lowering kit with new equipment.

You have to be careful. Most springs these days have a double wind or an end grind to give a flat surface for the spring to ride on. If you cut the coils, you will lose this flat surface and your springs will want to bow out.

Springs are only a couple hundred bucks and installation isn't that hard. I'd save up, do it right and be safe.

They did that stuff back in the day because there wasn't a real automotive aftermarket to support their addiction.

Thank you every one ,the bowing out was my concern ....I'll keep it stock for now , found some lowering springs on ebay for around $70 or $80 bucks , dont know how good are they or if there is much difference between brands.

Beware of counterfeit parts on Ebay...There can be BIG differences between brands (especially if they are fake)

I love my Eibach Prokit springs. I also run Eibach springs on my (and my friends) off road race truck...Never had a single problem in 4 years & we pound the living **** out of these springs..
