Check engine light

Default Check engine light

What is the procedure to turn off the check engine light wihout a scantool on a 2000 Protege? Thanks!

The only way to turn off the light is with a scan tool. You could try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, may or may not work. If you go to a place like Autozone, they will do it for free.

Where the earlier OBD-I cars able to have the CEL turned off bu disconnecting the neg battery clamp and pressing the brake pedal for 20 seconds???

i know on my parents car, there is just this red button on the fuse panel. but then again, some cars have crazy procedures to turn it off, like, multiple steps
