Default airbag light flashing

My airbag light is flashing. I don't want to sound like a dumb blonde, but here goes. It is flashing...5 flashes, pause, then 1 flash, pause and then 5 flashes and on and on. My question is this.....will my airbag deploy while driving? It is freaking me out. I have a 1994 Miata - automatic.

Contrary to being a dumb blond, you are even smart enough to make a note of the flashing pattern.
No the air bag will notdeploy while you are driving. The system is shut down if a fault is detected and light is flashing. The flashing pattern you describe is a code 51 which would indicate a burned system down fuse within the air bag diagnostic module itself. Somewhat of a common problem with mid 90's MX-5. New module should get you squared away but will run you around $170 from the dealer. Am sure you could get cheaper an onlinemazdaparts.com. OE part number for the diagnostic module is GA2A-67-7F0A
