2005 Mazda 3 A/C issues
Last summer my a/c stopped blowing cold air so I took it to a shop and they told me that the wiring from my compressor melted and I had to replace the whole unit and they quoted me somewhere around $1300 for everything. I am definitely not going to put that into an 11year old car. So I was wondering if I were to go to a junkyard and cut the wiring off and splice it onto mine, would it work? I can still move the pulley by hand so that's not seized up at least.
Also, on the climate control, the A/C button doesn't like to stay lit up anymore. It usually only stays on when the fan speed is on 1 or 2 but when I turn it to 3 or 4 the light flickers and sometimes comes back on. Not sure if these two things are related or not.

Splice in the wires, not a problem. You can move the pulley but what about the clutch and internal side of the compressor? Something generated enough heat to melt the wires and I'd guess the compressor is shot.
The outer part of the clutch spins, I was watching a video on youtube where you can apparently pull that apart and swap it out without removing the compressor. But I haven't looked at it to see what actually melted and now that I have the sunroof I probably won't worry about it LOL
