Default 08 Mazda 5 bad gas milage

I have an 08 Mazda 5 with 72000 Km"s. I'm getting extremely bad gas milage and can smell gas in oil a bit. I have no engine light on and air filter is good and car runs normally not rough can anyone tell me what to do to fix this problem

Add a bottle of Techron to the gas tank and drive. It is likely a poor spray pattern from the injectors. Possibly carbon accumulation on the tips. Techron cleans injectors and decarbons valves/pistons. Use it once a month to keep an engine healthy. I have overhauled hundreds of engines due to carbon creeping into the rings. Clean your MAF also.

Some other causes of poor gas mileage could be low tire pressure, bad wheel alignment, dragging brakes and a really dirty air filter. None is hard to check or terribly expensive to fix, so check them out.

Keep in mind that gas mileage goes down in the fall as additives are blended into gasoline to create less pollution on cold startups. These additives have oxygen and contain less energy than gasoline, so mileage is reduced in the fall & winter.

Good luck!

Bob
