Default **NEED HELP** Assist me in identifying this part!!

My friend who is in school in St. Kitts messaged me today that her mazda tribute is broke down. No one on the island can identify this broken piece. I am by no means a mechanic but have a little experience but none with mazdas. It is a 2002 model. It looks to be part of the cooling system as there is coolant in the photos. I found a part for a 2008/9 model tribute that resembles her corroded POS but nothing for an '02. Is it a cooling hose connector?

It is located on the engine block between the two heads. Here are a couple pictures...

Rusted part that needs replacement

Where it broke off

The part I found that kinda looks like her rusty part..

Thank you for any help or advice!!!

those pics are nice. I am not a Mazda parts geek, but looks like you got a handle on it. I would phone Mazda and ask if you could get an e-mail address and provide them with a link to this thread so they can view pics, or just e-mail them your pics.

Is this the 3L Duratec engine?

If so it may be related to the water pump:

Or it could be part of the thermostat housing.
