2001 B3000 squeals then stalls, when cold.
Hi. I have a 2001 B3000, with 70,000 miles. This problem just started last week. For the first 10 or 15 minutesafter starting, the engine will, intermittently, make a little squeal noise, and then stall. I can start it right back up (thankfully). And it appears to go away after the engine is sufficiently warmed up. I don't think it's the belt? I just had the serpentine belt replaced last summer.

Havethe tension on the idler pulley check for proper strength. This could cause the belt to rub instead of spin. Also do you know what binding it up. Watch all of the components spin when it first starts. Have someone else start it while you watch. I would think your alternator is freezing up causing the crank to basically stop.

Hey, Thanks for the info! I just had the serpentine belt replaced last year. Is that the same thing? It was running great up until about 2 weeks ago when this started. Which leads me to beleive you're right about it being something else, like the alternator!

Yea the serpentine has the tensioner pully wraped around it like all of the other "accessories" on yrou truck. When you look at your belt it winds and curves around all kinds of things. Make sure that this has the proper tension pulled against the belt. Theres alittle mark somewhere on that to tell if you need to replace the belt and that will tell you if it needs to be replaced or the tensioner. But yea i would like to know how this goes for you and what was causing the belt to stop spinnign.
